Soundcore Sleep A30 Earbuds

For most bedrooms the A30 does more: active noise cancelling on top of snore masking, at the lower price at our latest check. The Ozlo is the better buy when the smallest possible bud, the longest battery or a private alarm matters more than blocking steady noise.

Deep dive

The head-to-head, dimension by dimension

Noise blocking

Winner: Soundcore Sleep

This is the real difference. Soundcore gives the A30 three layers: active noise cancellation, the passive seal of the tips, and adaptive snore masking, aimed at snoring, appliance hum, pet movement and traffic. Active cancelling is at its best on steady, low sounds, which is exactly what masking alone struggles to cover without being turned up.

The Ozlo has no active cancelling. It relies on the seal of its silicone tips plus masking audio, which Ozlo argues works better than active cancelling for a snoring partner, and it switches to masking automatically once it detects you are asleep. If snoring is your only problem, both handle it with masking. If a road, a fridge or an air conditioner is part of the problem, the A30 is built for it and the Ozlo is not.

Comfort for side sleepers

Winner: Ozlo Sleepbuds

Ozlo publishes 1.6 g and 11 mm per bud, the lowest-profile in-ear design we track. Soundcore says each A30 earbud weighs about 3 g, in soft silicone with a 3D shape that follows the ear; Ozlo's own comparison lists the A30 at 2.4 g and 13 mm. Whichever A30 figure you take, the Ozlo is the smaller bud.

Neither brand publishes a pressure test, and we have not run one, so treat the size gap as the best guide: if your ear aches against the pillow with ordinary earbuds, the Ozlo gives you the most room.

Battery

Winner: Ozlo Sleepbuds

Ozlo rates the Sleepbuds 2 at up to 14 hours of playback in its test at 50% volume, with two to three more charges in the case. Soundcore lists 8-10 hours a charge for the A30 and up to 5 nights with the case, with playback from 6 to 16 hours depending on the mode.

Both outlast a normal night. The Ozlo's margin matters for long sleepers, naps on top of a full night, or anyone who forgets to put the buds back in the case.

Sounds, stories and sleep tracking

Tie

The two take different routes. The A30's app brings Calm sleep stories, white noise and Soundcore's AI Brainwave Audio, and monitors sleep duration, position and snoring in a morning report. The Ozlo streams anything over Bluetooth 5.3 to help you fall asleep, then moves to its own library of more than 60 on-board sounds, and its smart case adds readings on bedroom noise, light and temperature.

Neither is clearly ahead. Pick the A30 if you want snoring logged in your report; pick the Ozlo if you fall asleep to your own podcasts and audiobooks.

Price

Winner: Soundcore Sleep

At our latest check the A30 cost less than the Ozlo. The Ozlo's price has dipped at times, so compare both on the day. For the money, the A30 brings the active cancelling; the Ozlo's premium buys the smaller fit, the longer battery and the alarm.

Frequently asked questions

Soundcore Sleep A30 or Ozlo Sleepbuds 2: which is better?

For a loud bedroom, the A30: it adds active noise cancelling to snore masking and was the lower-priced of the two at our latest check. For the smallest fit, the longest battery or a private alarm, the Ozlo. If snoring is the only noise, either one covers it with masking.

Do the Ozlo Sleepbuds 2 have noise cancelling?

No active noise cancelling. Ozlo uses the passive seal of the tips plus masking audio, and argues that works better than active cancelling for snoring. The Soundcore Sleep A30 has active noise cancelling as well as snore masking.

Which is better for a snoring partner?

Both cover snoring with masking sound. The A30 adds active cancelling for the steady noise around it, such as traffic or a fan; the Ozlo switches to masking automatically once it detects you are asleep. If the room is otherwise quiet, the smaller Ozlo may be the more comfortable choice for a whole night.

Which is smaller?

The Ozlo: 1.6 g and 11 mm per bud, per Ozlo. Soundcore says each A30 earbud weighs about 3 g, and Ozlo's own comparison lists the A30 at 2.4 g and 13 mm.

How long do the batteries last?

The Ozlo is rated at up to 14 hours a charge at 50% volume, with two to three more charges in the case. The A30 is rated at 8-10 hours a charge and up to 5 nights with its case.

Can I take calls on either?

Not on the Ozlo: it has no microphone, which Ozlo says is deliberate. Soundcore's A30 page does not cover calls, so check the listing if that matters to you; both are built for sleep, not for phone use.
