Head-to-head verdicts across 10 dimensions — momme weight, silk grade, closure, coolness, value.
The silk-pillowcase comparisons buyers actually search for.

Five decisions collapse this whole category into a clear pick.
Momme (mm) measures silk density the way thread count measures cotton. 19-momme (Alaska Bear) is the light, affordable entry; 22-momme (Blissy, Slip, ZIMASILK) is the durability-and-feel sweet spot most people want; 25-momme (Fishers Finery, LilySilk) is the heaviest, most substantial and longest-lasting. Below 19 is too flimsy to last; above 25 is diminishing returns. Ignore vague 'pure silk' claims with no momme number — that's the tell of a cheap blend.
'Silk' can mean satin (polyester), charmeuse blends, or genuine mulberry silk — only the last delivers the benefits. Look for '100% mulberry silk' AND a grade (6A is the top long-fiber grade). OEKO-TEX certification (Blissy) means no harmful dyes against your face. If a listing hides the fiber source or grade, assume it's hiding a blend.
Here's the honest truth marketing blurs: silk helps because it's SMOOTH and slightly cooler, not because it's a skincare active. Reduced friction means less hair breakage and bedhead, less tugging on lashes and skin, and less of your night cream wicked away than cotton absorbs. It won't erase wrinkles or replace moisturizer. Buy it for the friction and the cool — real, modest, worth it — not for miracles.
Hidden zipper (Blissy, ZIMASILK, Slip's some lines) holds the pillow firmly and looks clean but adds a seam. Envelope/flap closure (Alaska Bear, Slip classic) has no hardware to fail and is easier to wash, but the pillow can slip out on a restless night. Zippers for a secure fit; envelopes for simplicity and durability.
$25 → Alaska Bear 19-momme, the best-value entry (accept lighter silk). $37 → ZIMASILK, real 22-momme without the beauty-brand markup — the smart-money pick. $58 → Blissy for 22-momme with OEKO-TEX and a huge color range. $59-79 → Fishers Finery or LilySilk for heavy 25-momme durability. $110 → Slip only if the prestige brand name matters to you; the silk isn't 4x better.
