Five decisions collapse this whole category into a clear pick.
Earbuds (Soundcore A20, Ozlo) seal your ear canal — that seal is what physically blocks a snoring partner. Headbands (MUSICOZY, Perytong) put nothing in your ear at all, which wins on comfort but only ADDS masking sound rather than blocking anything. Snore problem → earbuds. Comfort problem → band.
This kills normal earbuds — a stem pressed into your ear by a pillow hurts within an hour. Sleep-specific buds sit flush in the concha (the A20 and Ozlo are built entirely around this), and headbands work in any position. Over-ear headphones are a non-starter.
Passive blocking (a good earbud seal) removes ~20-30 dB before any audio plays. Masking (white noise, sleep sounds) covers what gets through. ANC barely helps with close-range snoring, which is why no serious sleep product leads with it. The strongest setup is seal + masking together.
You need 10 hours minimum — a bud that dies at 3am wakes you with silence. The A20 runs 14 hours in sleep mode; Ozlo runs ~10 plus case top-ups; the bands run ~10. Check whether 'battery' claims are for streaming or local masking sounds — streaming drains faster.
$16-19 → Perytong or MUSICOZY bands, the no-risk trial. ~$26 → LC-dolida if you also want a blackout mask. ~$130 → Soundcore Sleep A20, the complete package. ~$249 → Ozlo Sleepbuds when masking comfort is worth a premium.
