The 117S is the 518's cheaper sibling and the better buy for smaller rooms. It moves 892 CFM with a 33-foot reach from a compact 36-inch tower, which is more than enough for a standard bedroom, and it does it at 28 dB. That is 8 dB noisier than the 518 — audible, but still below a quiet room's ambient level and the kind of steady sound most people find helps rather than hinders. You give up five speed steps and four hours of timer range. At $20 less, in a room where you are not trying to cool a large space, that is a fair trade.

117S or 518 — which should I buy?
Room size decides it. In a small or spare bedroom the 117S's 892 CFM is plenty and you save $20. In a larger room, or if you are sensitive to noise and want the quietest possible low speed, the 518's 20 dB and 9-speed range are worth the difference.
Will the 8-hour timer turn it off before morning?
Possibly, and that is the one real drawback. If you go to bed at 11pm the fan stops around 7am, which is fine for most people but can wake light sleepers when the noise disappears. You can simply leave the timer off and run it continuously.
Is 892 CFM good?
For a bedroom, yes — it is a mid-to-high figure for a compact tower and comparable to much larger pedestal fans. CFM measures volume of air moved; the 33-foot reach figure matters just as much, because it tells you the air actually arrives at the bed rather than stalling halfway.
