Do the seat straps actually make a difference?
They are the reason to buy this over a generic U-pillow. Without an anchor, a neck pillow moves with your head instead of resisting it, so it cushions a slump rather than preventing one. Strapping the pillow to the headrest gives it something to push against. If your seat has no usable headrest, that advantage disappears.
Cabeau Evolution S3 or the Trtl?
The Trtl controls head-drop more aggressively and packs flatter, but supports one side at a time and runs warm. The S3 gives 360-degree support, works with your head in any direction, and looks conventional. Choose the Trtl if you are happy to set its support on one side (left, right or middle) at a time; the S3 if you shift around or want something less conspicuous.
Is it too hot on a long flight?
Memory foam insulates, and a full ring of it around your neck in a warm cabin gets noticeable after a few hours. Cabeau sells the Evolution Cool with airflow vents specifically for this, at about $25 more. If you run hot, pay the difference.
