Every U-shaped travel pillow shares the same flaw: it fills the gap around your neck but does nothing to stop your head tipping forward, which is the thing that actually wakes you. The Trtl attacks that directly. Inside the fleece is a rigid internal support you position under your chin or against either side of your neck, and it holds the head where you put it. Is the Trtl actually better than a normal U-shaped pillow?
For the specific problem of your head falling forward, yes — that is the whole design premise, and no foam U-pillow solves it because a ring around the neck cannot resist forward rotation. For general neck cushioning a good memory-foam U-pillow like the Cabeau Evolution S3 is more comfortable. Pick by which failure annoys you more.
Does it work if you sleep with your head straight forward?
Trtl says it can. The brand describes a Multiangle design in which the support can sit on the left, right or middle, as you prefer. Its guidance also covers moving the support towards the chin for a more upright head position. If you want 360-degree cushioning with seat straps, a different style of pillow may suit you better.
Is it too hot for a long flight?
It can be. It is fleece wrapped around your neck, which is a lot of insulation in a warm cabin. Trtl sells a Cool version with a more breathable fabric for exactly this complaint, and the Cabeau Evolution Cool takes the same problem seriously with airflow vents.
