What's the difference between Sleepytime and Sleepytime Extra?
The ingredient list. Classic Sleepytime is chamomile-mint; 'Extra' adds valerian root to that same base. Valerian is the herb with the most clinical research behind it, though NCCIH rates that evidence as limited and inconsistent.
Is it a good first valerian tea?
It's the least earthy-tasting one here — the chamomile-mint base covers valerian's flavour better than a single-ingredient valerian tea does. If taste is what put you off before, that's the practical difference.
Any caution with the valerian?
Same as all valerian teas: skip during pregnancy and breastfeeding, don't combine with sedatives or alcohol, and don't drive after a strong cup. Ask your pharmacist if you take anything regularly.
