Best smart rings without a subscription: RingConn Gen 3, Gen 2, Gen 2 Air and Galaxy Ring

A no-subscription smart ring should keep its useful data available after purchase, not turn into a limited shell when payments stop. Oura's support site says that without membership an Oura Ring has only limited functionality, and the newer Ring 5 uses the same membership. Our Oura Ring 4 review covers that ring in full. Every ranked ring here keeps its stated core features without a mandatory data subscription, but compatibility, battery, charging and health signals differ sharply.

Quick answer

The best smart ring without a subscription is the RingConn Gen 3: it combines up to 14 days of battery, a charging case, sleep-apnea pattern monitoring, vibration alerts and vascular trends. Gen 2 is the value choice with apnea monitoring, Gen 2 Air costs least, and Galaxy Ring is best for Samsung Health users.

#1 · Best overall

RingConn Gen 3 Smart Ring

It combines the longest stated battery ceiling here with a charging case and RingConn's broadest subscription-free feature set.

RingConn Gen 3 is the overall pick because it adds meaningful hardware and insight features without adding a membership. RingConn rates it for 10 to 12 days with vibration enabled and 11 to 14 days without, and the case provides roughly 15 additional charges. It is the only RingConn here with vibration alerts and vascular trends, while retaining sleep-apnea pattern monitoring.

Those vascular trends are not blood-pressure readings, and neither they nor the apnea patterns are diagnoses. Gen 3 also needs its own sizing kit because RingConn says its sizes differ from standard rings and from older RingConn models. It ties the Gen 2 on our overall score, so the order here comes down to features: Gen 3 matches the Gen 2's sleep-apnea pattern monitoring and charging case, then adds vibration alerts, vascular trends and a longer battery ceiling. Gen 2 wins on price, which is why it is the value pick below.

Pros

  • ✓No subscription for RingConn's published feature set
  • ✓Up to 14 days with vibration off, plus roughly 15 case charges
  • ✓Apnea-pattern monitoring, vibration alerts and vascular trends
  • ✓Supports iPhone and Android

Cons

  • ✗Costs more than Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air
  • ✗Requires its own Gen 3 sizing kit
  • ✗Health insights are wellness signals, not diagnoses
#2 · Best value with sleep-apnea monitoring

RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring

It keeps apnea-pattern monitoring, long battery life and a charging case at a lower price than Gen 3.

Gen 2 remains the value choice for buyers who specifically want RingConn's sleep-apnea pattern monitoring. It stays on sale alongside Gen 3 and Gen 2 Air, offers a rated 10 to 12 days of battery and includes a portable charging case, all without a subscription.

What it lacks is Gen 3's vibration motor, vascular trends and higher battery ceiling. That makes the newer ring more capable, not automatically better value. If those additions do not matter, Gen 2 preserves the advanced sleep signal that the cheaper Air omits.

Pros

  • ✓Sleep-apnea pattern monitoring without a subscription
  • ✓Rated 10 to 12 days per charge
  • ✓Portable charging case
  • ✓Lower-priced than Gen 3

Cons

  • ✗No vibration alerts or vascular trends
  • ✗App guidance is less deep than Oura's membership experience
  • ✗Sizing kit adds a step before ordering
#3 · Best budget

RingConn Gen 2 Air Smart Ring

It costs the least of the three RingConn rings while keeping core sleep and health trends without a subscription.

RingConn Gen 2 Air smart ring
Editor score7.8/10
$199.00
(Amazon price as of – Details)Shop at best price →Full review →

Gen 2 Air is the budget pick because it is the least expensive RingConn and still covers sleep stages, heart rate, blood oxygen, HRV, night-time respiratory rate, skin temperature, stress and activity trends. RingConn rates it for up to 10 days, with about 90 minutes to recharge on its dock.

The feature cuts are the reason for the lower price: no apnea-pattern monitoring, vibration alerts, vascular trends or charging case. Choose it for core trends and long battery life, not because it secretly matches the higher models. Its free sizing kit is still essential because RingConn sizes are not standard ring sizes.

Pros

  • ✓Least expensive RingConn model
  • ✓Core sleep and health trends without a subscription
  • ✓Up to 10 days of battery
  • ✓Supports iPhone and Android

Cons

  • ✗No sleep-apnea pattern monitoring
  • ✗Dock charging instead of a case
  • ✗No vibration alerts or vascular trends
#4 · Best for Android and Samsung Health

Samsung Galaxy Ring

It puts ring data and Galaxy AI insights inside Samsung Health without a subscription and rewards Galaxy-phone owners with extra controls.

Galaxy Ring is the Android ecosystem choice. Samsung puts its Sleep Score, Energy Score, Wellness Tips and other ring data into Samsung Health without a subscription, and the charging case extends use away from an outlet to about 14 days. Galaxy owners also get supported gestures and Samsung Find integration.

It is not an iPhone option, and even Android buyers should note that some extras require a Galaxy phone. Its single-charge rating is also shorter than every RingConn here: up to seven days for sizes 12 to 15 and up to six for sizes 5 to 11. Samsung labels its signals as general wellness rather than medical features, and the ring's verified feature list does not include sleep-apnea detection.

Pros

  • ✓Samsung Health and Galaxy AI insights without a subscription
  • ✓Charging case extends time away from an outlet
  • ✓Light titanium construction
  • ✓Extra gesture and finding features for Galaxy owners

Cons

  • ✗Android-only, with no iPhone support
  • ✗Shorter single-charge battery than RingConn
  • ✗Some extras require a Samsung Galaxy phone

Buying criteria

What to look for in a smart ring without a subscription

1.Check what no subscription actually includes

RingConn says its current rings require no subscription, with the Air covering standard features and Gen 2 and Gen 3 adding their stated advanced signals. Samsung says Galaxy Ring data, insights and Galaxy AI features are available in Samsung Health without a subscription; optional Samsung Care+ is device protection. That is materially different from Oura: its support site says the ring has only limited functionality without membership, and Ring 5 uses that same membership.

2.Match the ring to your phone

RingConn Gen 3 and Gen 2 Air support iOS 17 or later and Android 10 or later. Galaxy Ring requires Android 11 or later and does not work with an iPhone. Its camera and alarm gestures and Find My Ring also depend on a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, so general Android support and the full Galaxy experience are not identical.

3.Use the correct sizing kit

Do not order from your jewellery size. RingConn states its sizes are not standard ring sizes, and Gen 3 sizes even differ from other RingConn rings, so use the kit made for the model. Samsung includes one sizing kit per order and recommends wearing the sample for at least 24 hours before choosing.

4.Separate battery life from charging convenience

RingConn Gen 3 has the longest stated ceiling here and includes a case; Gen 2 also pairs long battery life with a case. Gen 2 Air lasts up to 10 days but charges on a dock. Galaxy Ring lasts up to six or seven days depending on size, while its case extends time away from an outlet to about 14 days. A case matters most when travelling, even if it does not change the ring's single-charge runtime.

5.Treat apnea and vascular insights as wellness signals

RingConn lists apnea-pattern monitoring on Gen 2 and Gen 3, not Gen 2 Air. Gen 3's vascular trends combine collected patterns, optional manual blood-pressure inputs and lifestyle factors; RingConn says they are not individual blood-pressure measurements. Galaxy Ring's verified list does not include sleep-apnea detection. None of these rings provides a diagnosis or replaces medical evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Oura alternative without a subscription?

RingConn Gen 3 is our overall pick because it combines the longest stated battery ceiling in this group, a charging case, apnea-pattern monitoring, vibration alerts and vascular trends without a subscription. Oura's support site says an Oura Ring has only limited functionality without membership, and its newer Ring 5 uses the same membership.

What is the cheapest smart ring that is genuinely free to use?

RingConn Gen 2 Air costs the least of the three RingConn rings and does not require a subscription for its standard features. It tracks the core sleep and health trends, but it leaves out apnea-pattern monitoring, vibration alerts, vascular trends and a charging case.

Does any subscription-free smart ring work with an iPhone?

Yes. RingConn Gen 3 and Gen 2 Air support iOS 17 or later. Samsung Galaxy Ring does not work with an iPhone; it requires Android 11 or later.

Is RingConn Gen 2 still worth buying now Gen 3 exists?

Yes, when value and apnea-pattern monitoring matter more than vibration alerts and vascular trends. Gen 2 stays on sale, costs less than Gen 3, includes a charging case and is rated for 10 to 12 days. Gen 3 is the feature-first choice; Gen 2 is the value choice.

Do I need a smart-ring sizing kit?

Yes. RingConn says its sizes do not match standard rings, and Gen 3 sizing differs even from other RingConn models. Samsung includes one free kit per order and recommends wearing the sample for at least 24 hours. Do not guess from a jewellery size.

Why is Ultrahuman not ranked?

Oura won a US International Trade Commission patent case in 2025, and the final October 2025 exclusion order barred the original Ultrahuman Ring Air from US import. Ultrahuman's redesigned Ring Pro was cleared by US Customs in March 2026 and began US shipping in May with no mandatory subscription, but we have not reviewed it, so it is not ranked. RingConn settled with Oura under a patent licence in October 2025 and was removed from the exclusion order that December, so its rings remain on sale in the US.
